Minimalist elegance: Automatic sliding doors in DC Tower 1

The DC Tower 1 is the tallest building in Austria, and now a landmark of the Donau City district. Automatic Slimdrive sliding door systems by GEZE were chosen for the door technology. Their restrained design and low drive heights are in perfect harmony with the building architecture.

A sleek, solitary building with a sparkling black façade and wavelike surface towers 150 m above the Viennese skyline; the DC Tower 1, designed by the French architect Dominique Perrault, impresses with its sleek appearance, discerning design and premium build quality.

The aesthetic standard is also expressed in the choice of door systems: in keeping with his original design, Dominique Perrault, his design partner Gaëlle Lauriot-Prévost and the Viennese partner firm Hoffmann-Janz Architekten opted for automatic sliding door systems from the GEZE Slimdrive series.

Slimdrive sliding doors: Aesthetic functionality

A suspended staircase over three storeys, with a surface reminiscent of the ripples of waves in water, connects the reception area of the 5-star designer hotel Meliá Vienna in the basement with the Flow and Ra’mien go restaurants on the ground floor and the event and conference rooms on the first floor. Fine-framed automatic sliding doors with discreet Slimdrive SL NT door drives emphasise the exquisite atmosphere.

Over 30 automatic sliding doors with Slimdrive SL NT drive units are used in various areas of the DC Tower 1, and contribute to the overall appearance.

Consistent door design for automatic sliding doors

The continuity of the door design can also be found in the entrance area of the John Harris Fitness Club, in the exclusive hospitality area at the top of the tower with the 57 Restaurant & Lounge, and on the roof terrace; Slimdrive SL NT drives move the glass doors with precision and elegant ease. Both powerful and quiet, they are perfect for heavily used areas and offer flexible ease of access by adjusting their hold-open time to fit the frequency of people passing through. The movement parameters of the door leaves can be adjusted individually.

Increased building security through networked door technology

State-of-the-art control technology ensures that Slimdrive SL NT drive systems are future-proof.; The technology facilitates a link to the building system so that door functions can be monitored or modified, even remotely. The automatic sliding doors in the lower floors were equipped with special Slimdrive FR drive versions as escape and rescue route doors, as well as air supply openings in the event of a fire.

Escape and rescue routes – safety with design

The architectures also relied on door technology by GEZE for preventive fire protection and to safeguard rescue routes. 50 elegant door control units from the TZ 300 series are used to secure the escape and rescue route doors in the entire stairway. Tailor-made ventilation technology ensures reliable smoke and heat extraction (RWA) in the event of a fire. The stairwell doors are equipped with K 600 retractable arm drives. If there is a fire, the doors are pushed apart and held wide open to allow smoke and heat to escape quickly and efficiently.
